I have 2 1938 6cyl 218ci motors for sale One is still in a good running car and the other has been rebuilt and ready to go. One is a Canadian built with the
longer block.
Here are a couple of pics with motor in car
@Michael Carney do you know anyone with a '38 that could use these?

1938 DeSoto 6 Fastback Sedan
I was looking at the pictures of the engine and noticed that the throttle linkage up to the carb is on the passenger side of the engine. Most 38 and 39 Desoto have the linkage on the driver side of the engine block with a rod going over the op of the head like on my 39 Desoto.
So this tells me that this engine came from an export car or was going to put in an export car. Also the linakage attaches to the two upright studs on the intake manifold.
So is you car a left hand or a right hand drive car. Just curious.
