Well, my previous lead did not pan out.. but that's ok. As they say, _____ happens.. lol.
I am currently looking in the market for an '46, '47, 48 DeSoto. Prefer a Club Coupe but also open to a nice sedan. Would like to find one in a strong #3 condition or better that doesn't need a lot of work. No projects and No rusty cars. Not looking for anything modified, prefer original or original restored. Something that can be driven and shown as is. Pricing depends on car. Any leads would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
DeSotoly yours,

Dean,
This looks like a very nice car. Not sure of your DeSoto budget but the seller appears to be motivated.

You could likely ask Russ Frank to look at the car on your behalf if you have interest.

Thanks Mark. Actually David Frank sent me this link about a week ago.. it is a very nice car. But there is a story behind this car as well. The guy selling it is trying to flip it apparently as he just bought it in June. Quite by accident I talked to the previous owner tonight on the phone. Too much to go into here.. but they owned it for 35 years. They changed the interior colors and fabrics... totally wrong if you want factory, which I do. There was no red (she called it rose) interior color available. To change it back, even over time, would be very expensive with the price he wants. I think everything else is stock or very close with the exception of a few minor things. Keeping it in my possibility list though! I also have to consider transport costs too.
Thanks for the tip!!

Dean,
There is a lady recently widdowed that was selling a 1947 2 door sedan that appeared to be original all the way through. It was advertised somewhere on this forum but I can't seem to find it. It is light blueish gray and like new as far as the pictures showed. I don't know if it's still available but she had three DeSotos for sale and the '47 was the only one left that I last knew of.

I think this is the one you were referring to, Fred.
It's supposed to be fun!
1949 De Soto Custom Convertible (project)
Hey guys, thanks for the tip help! That is a beautiful car. Actually that's the first time I have seen a 2 door sedan.
Couple of things though... that car is out of my price range (need to stay under about $14k
I think I want to stick with a club coupe (preferred) or a Custom sedan if I can find one.
Keep pushing the tips my way please! Thanks again for all of your help!

Dean,
Here is one currently up for sale on eBay. For a moment I thought it was the Craigslist Wisconsin car now made infamous in David Frank's post. Looks like a nice solid car but like the other there are no photos of the underside.
Hey Mark, thanks for the lead. This is actually a car I looked at as one of the first when I started looking. It does appear extremely nice in the pictures. Had a very long talk with the dealer that is selling the car and he told me about some things that he's not really listing in the auction. He says the paint has chips and scratches, but it's actually got cracks and blisters because he sent me photos of them when I first looked at it.. This is at least its third time being on eBay.. first bidder did not purchase the car and it did not sell the second time around. Interior has been redone nicely but it is not correct and if you got this car you would probably have to repaint it unless you didn't mind driving with the cracks and a couple of blisters where the paint has opened up so you can see down to the primer on the sheet metal. The blisters aren't huge though, several inches long maybe, but they are there and that means there was a problem in prepping the paint originally.

Here is a nice looking two-door sedan on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1947-DeSoto-Del ... is&vxp=mtr
The above is the same car member Nancy Waszke had listed for $17K or offer back in May along with her '57 Adventurer and '49 convertible. looks like this '47 has been sold to a "flipper" who now is asking $21.9K. Hmmmm.............
No doubt about it though, it sure is a gorgeous and rare DeSoto.

This is Nancy Wuszke's '47. It isn't being flipped though. She placed the car with a broker on consignment and it appears they added a commission to her asking price.
Nancy is selling George's collection and what didn't sell at her sale is being sold through this broker. The '57 Adventurer and the '49 De Soto convertible were bought by a collector that is a very private person and it is doubtful we will see them again. This collector doesn't display or show his collection.
The '47 was the only De Soto she had left.
www.searchtempest.com crawls all the craigslists. Do the search you desire. A few hints: select how far you want to search (up to 4000 miles I think) and also check the box for cars and trucks or you get all kinds of stuff...
Dan,
Thanks for the tip! I knew there had to be a way to search all of Craig's List at one time. I mean, it only makes sense.
And just for the record... I finally found and bought a car a couple of days ago. I found a 1941 Deluxe 2 door sedan that was located in NC. It is not a car currently in the club and will be the only Deluxe 2 door sedan in the club. The only other 2 door sedan listed is a Custom. I am actually surprised that there not more within the club because there were about 9200 Deluxe 2 door sedans built. Go Figure! Its a pretty solid car with an older restoration that needs a little sprucing up but still looks presentable. Getting started ASAP...
Thanks to all of you that tried/offered assistance on locating a car!
