This year Ed Holter brought his freshly restored 1953 Firedome 2-Door Sedan to the Orphan Car show. This is a beautiful car, and I thought I would post a few photos of it. Here is a right front view with the hood open and the description placard in place.

Here is another photo, this one of the rear quarter showing the interesting bumper guard Ed found.

Here is an interesting interior shot showing the dashboard. Compare this to the dash on the 1952 cars shown in separate posts. Notice the shift quadrant added to the steering column. This car was still using the M-6 hydraulic shift transmission with a fluid coupler. Notice also the relocated cowl ventilator lever. For 1953 DeSoto returned to the cowl ventilator as a source of fresh air for the heater. A really nicely restored car!

Here is an underhood shot of the DeSoto V-8. Several interesting things here- notice the air ducting on the cowl for the heater. A feature that would become common on later cars. Also notice that Ed has chosen to paint his rocker covers the way DeSoto colored them in their advertising. Looks a lot brighter than the way DeSoto chose to build them with silver rocker covers! A nicely done underhood!
