I bought a 1948 Custom Club Coupe this past November. As far as I know, she is all original. One minor modification I found is someone has added brake lights in the tail lights. She has roughly 63,000 miles on the odometer and I've driven her about 200 miles so far. All of the chrome had been replated before I bought her.

The things that need to be done that I know of are: putting the trim back on that is not currently on her, install the rubber around the doors and trunk which is currently missing, fix the brakes which currently has to be pumped to stop, fix an oil leak around the drain plug, fix a small leak in the rear, fix a leak at the carburetor, figure out why she doesn't shift properly and why she won't go above 45 mph.

Things I want to do are: rewire everything, replace the gas tank which has been patched, get any components that aren't working repaired (radio, clock, heater, wipers, etc), add any extras that were available back then that she doesn't have (visor, backup lights, fog lights etc) except for the spot lights as I don't want to put those holes in her and I really don't like them.

She is currently covered and waiting for warmer weather to start on any of the projects she needs.

My name is Mario Becerra I'm a new member of the Desoto car club, I need pictures of the type of spitfire flathead 6 cylinder engine that matches my 1941 Desoto Custom. My electrical system has been converted to a 12 volt system. I have an automatic choke with no cable, don't know where the throttle cable attaches to. The mechanic that was working on my engine to paint it went out of business and left me with parts and electrical cables unattached.

I been told that they are many models of Desoto's that have the same type of engine as mine if anyone can help me with pictures it will help me put it back in running condition.

Also, I'm missing front and rear fender chrome molding as well as 1 of the molding below the doors. If anyone knows someone with those parts please let me know.

please free to call me or email me.

thank you,

Hello fellow DeSoto owners, My name is Scott Alvord and I am new to the Club. I am in the process of restoring a 1947 Desoto. I am using a family friend as the expert and working with him on this project. We are mainly working on the the body to remove rust and get a base coat on everything to prevent further rust. Currently having the floor panels repaired as they sustain a lot of rust through damage. As many of you know this is a slow process but we will get there. As we go I am starting to look at future needs and repairs. Currently looking at the wiring harness needing replacement. The question I have for the group is keeping it as a six volt system or converting to a 12 volt? Please share your thoughts.

Thanks

It's a Deluxe 2 door sedan with Fluid Drive and the Simplimatic transmission (semi-automatic)6. Only two are listed in the club roster but I know of 2 more. All '41s are seemingly rare. It takes a good picture.. .LOL but its a work in progress!
